If you didn’t already know, Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky. Years ago, a mysterious star appeared in the sky that surprised astronomers and scientists. So they started verifying historical documents whether there is any account about this star anywhere. An ancient document written in the 6th century B.C., contained a prophecy about a future King associated with Israel symbolized by a star.
Understanding that this star marks the birth of a King, these wise men journeyed to the palace of the then Roman King Herod, who was ruling over the Jews, in Jerusalem to meet this new born ruler. However, to their surprise, they found no baby in the palace. King Herod’s advisors let him know that the King of Jews will be born in Bethlehem. So they left the palace and headed to Bethlehem following this mysterious star in the sky. Fascinating as it is, the star was stationed right above a house in Bethlehem. There they found Jesus with his parents, Joseph and Mary. The King mentioned in Jewish historical records.
Jesus’ birth fulfilled a prophecy from around 700 B.C. by Isaiah, stating a virgin would give birth to a son. The historical records confirm that Jesus is God incarnate.
The Jews awaited the birth of this King with hopes for a better tomorrow, where they will live without fear in freedom. But we see that this King brought freedom not only for Jews, but for the entire humanity. Sin had put the entire human race in shackles. He brought freedom through His death on the cross by bearing all the punishments of human sin. A sinful man cannot enter heaven. The death on the cross cleansed the human beings from their sin thus reconciling mankind with God.This very act fulfilled the purpose of His incarnation. He freed us from the wrath of God and offered us a path to salvation and eternal life.
Most assuring fact of all is that this freedom requires no price, but a whole hearted belief in Jesus. For God said: “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved”. (Romans 10:9)
The brightness of the Sirius star is nothing in comparison to the good news this mysterious star has brought to humanity; making it much more special than any other star known to us.
