Good Deeds Take A Backseat

Did the question come to your mind “how can that 1 stone weigh more than those 5 stones?” It might look illogical, but it’s not. Let’s see how.

First let’s take a quick peek at a story. There was a son who lost all of the fortune he got from his father on worldly life. He enjoyed the worldly pleasures, spent all his fortune, and ended up completely broken on a pig farm. When the son decided to return to his father with great guilt, the father welcomed him back with a huge loving heart. (Luke 15:11-32).

Similarly, just like this prodigal son, we also went in search of worldly pleasure, sinned and forgot God. This story depicts the love God has for us just like this father. Though our ways are sinful, when we return to him despite our sinfulness, He never turns his back on us.

Jesus Christ promises in Romans 10:9-11 “That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” There is a life after death in which only those who have repented and accepted Jesus as their Savior in heart will enter the gates of heaven.

You might say it is enough to do good deeds to reach heaven. It is commendable to do good deeds and help others in this world but that’s not enough. Before God, “All the right things we have done are like filthy pieces of cloth” (Isaiah 64:6). Also the Holy Bible says “We are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and not by our own efforts or works” (Ephesians 2:8-9). Grace alone means that God loves, forgives, and saves us not because of who we are or by what we do, but because of the work of Christ. Grace Alone-Faith Alone.

In essence salvation is not earned through human works alone but is a gift from God received through faith in Jesus Christ. All good deeds showcase the love of God, but that alone does guarantee the ticket to heaven.

The good deeds we do might look like the 5 stones in the picture. But before God, it has no weight. That 1 stone symbolizes our faith in Christ Jesus. Only He can balance the scale for you.
